I have posted this a while ago. Now got it in person. Someone suggested this is a 1990 copy acid washed to look old. I was thinking a bit earlier - around 1950. Old repair (on picture) partly confirm that. So my question is - how to see and understand that the rug was washed with acid?

Konstantin,
Thank you for the good images of the back of the rug.
I now think it is highly unlikely that rug was made any later than the 1940's-1950's, and likely earlier (my opinion worth what you pay for it...)
Any modern reproduction of an old rug would have been made on a loom with consistent warp and weft tensions. The back of yours suggests a rustic weaving environment, more like that of Qashqai ground loom gabbeh rugs, or this Bijar mat that we have, which I guesstimate is 1900-1930's, and not a workshop piece:
Regards
Chuck

This piece to me looks like an authentic tribal piece made on a loom made from branches of a tree. I would speculate it was done by a weaver that hasn’t mastered the skill yet or by an elderly weaver. The repair appears to have been completed out of necessity rather than a commercial market. It does appear older and whomever suggested 1990 is a little off based on what I see from the pics. Yes, forgery can and will happen but normally those are for extremely high priced items.
I also noticed this that would not have made it to the floor by a rug seller. Without being corrected first. It’s a mistake that was simply corrected by looping it in the skirt.
i think it’s a wonderful piece! I tend to lean more towards the non commercial pieces.
This is very hard to find on the pics provided as it appears to be hiding. This resembles a possible date. A clearer pic would be beneficial to see what it is.

Joe. Dont get you point on the dating. there are few lines in dark color yes. But i could not understand for what purpose. This is not a part of design since there is no logic and clear order. Just several dark lines on kilim ends near the edge
