Hi Marc,
Both are very nice rugs, especially the "Leshgi star". It is possible that the bright yellow-orange was dyed with an early synthetic dye, possibly basic orange-2. Interestingly, I read that it was one of the first orange azo dyes developed and it was used as early as the 1870s, which would be consistent with your reading of the date. Although I cannot be certain that a synthetic dye was used, from the picture there is a good chance. BTW, this in no way detracts from the piece IMO.
