I picked this up recently because I was drawn to the unusual color. I am not too knowledgeable on Balouch weavings and do know they can come from what is now Afghanistan or Iran although both are designated as Balouch.
This piece is 18x19 inches and has a KPSI of 38.5. Although the knot count is low, the weft appears to be brown double strand and is as thick as the pile.
The main Motif is hard to see as there has been some fading and it appears to be a hooked medallion.
The weave is asymmetrical open left and the pile direction is actually going towards the top of the picture. The backside appears to be of the same weave due to the color and overall look but is not connected as one piece to the face. It has been secured onto the face…not one continuous weave. The opening of the bag is on the top of the picture. The green synthetic looking material must have been added at some point throughout the bags life.
The side tassels confuse me as my limited knowledge attributes these with a Balisht.
luckily it has the “S” borders to at least help me assume it’s a Balouch along with the Kilim weave at the top and bottom to include the bottom tassels.
The pile wool is shiny and I don’t believe it’s a silk blend but an indication the wool may be have high quality.
Age? I have no clue. Any input would be appreciated.
