Here is another small, excellent condition, Persian rug I've owned for about fifty years. It is about 24" x 30" and has the old Made in Persia tag on the back. but only a few hand written numbers are barely visible. Can someone identify this rug.

Hi Steve
Searching the web for info on American Sarouks returned lots of sites with very detailed info and photos and many included detailed info and examples of painted American Sarouks, that were very common from 1920s to 1950s, and how to determine if a rug was painted. So, I spent most of the day reading and looking at hundreds of photos and followed the simple ways to determine if a rug was painted. Bottom line is I agree mine is an American Sarouk but I don't believe it was painted because spreading the red pile, on the top, down to the knots, and looking at the color of the red threads on the back, the color is exactly the same.Henry Rancourt

Hi chuck. I changed my signature to my full name thinking that would show up under my avatar and that didn't work. Do I have to change my user name to make it show up there?Last edited by Henry Rancourt; 04-01-2026, 06:35 PM.Henry Rancourt
