  • Festive Jacket Find - any info appreciated

    Hello,

I found this at a thrift store labelled "vintage Afghani regalia jacket" — hoping someone here can help me learn more about it.

White buttons appear to be plastic.

There's some light darning visible — looks like previous repairs.

Would love any help identifying region, ethnic group, age, or what this would have been worn for. Thanks in advance.

    -Travis

An AI image search appears to confirm my guess that the jacket was made by a member of the Hill Tribes, an ethnic minority now resident in SE Asia and Southern China. The Met has a jacket with similar decoration catalogued as have come from Burma, circa 1900.

      Hi Travis,

Tha's correct, and the filled-triangles pattern on the sleeves is one of the hallmarks of material from that region. In the future, please conclude with your first and last name as a guest, and by all means, you are welcome to sign up for membershhip, which is free.

Thanks so much, both. Much appreciated. The "Afghani" part was incorrect I see.

        Best Regards,
