  • Yellow Field Anatolian Rug

I own a yellow field anatolian rug for many years. Size is 95x120 cm. It has vibrant colors, but is in a deplorable condition. Is this a later copy?

Very nice piece probably from Konya. The abundance of aubergine and the yellow ground show an early date may be around 1800. In my opinion it deserves a good treatment.

I agree. If it belonged to me I would sew a cloth to the back. probably dark blue, and display it on a wall.

        Hello Heinz,

Long ago, we had a discussion thread that included a couple rugs almost identical to this one.

This will jog Steve's memory, as it did mine.

        Regards
        Chuck

Hello Heinz. I was excited to see your post. I have enjoyed your older posts especially with your Turkish pieces.

Your Central Anatolian piece is wonderful! Even in its condition, it is still worthy of a spot on the wall.

Chuck posted a link with similiar examples one of which came from Gülşehir (rose city). If correct, this would be closer to Kayseri than Konya and is even closer to Nevşehir.

A few things leading me to believe this is an older piece are the low pile and lack of color fading especially on the purple. I only saw one faded color from your pics and that was a blue/turquoise color. Also, the lack of an extensive knot count and it being wool on cotton definitely puts it’s around the 2nd half of the 19c in my opinion.

Here is an interesting take on a similar piece.
