Would like anyone's input on what they believe the design 'disruption' in the lower left corner of this carpet is (if not 'caused' by a repair). I had inquired before it was sold recently at auction and was told (a couple of times) by the auction house that this disruption of the design in the one corner was definitely not a repair. I know what I think, but what say you learned folk? (As described by auction house supposedly a Kizil Ayak 1850-1880.)

A repair, or..........?

That's how it looks to me, too.Originally posted by Chuck Wagner View PostHi Phil,
To my eye, it seems that the weaver on that side of the rug was working without a cartoon, and decided to try to turn the corner anyway, with mixed results.
There's no obvious evidence of a cut line going across to the other side.

Thanks for the input gents. Must say, although I had some trouble getting me head around how that design so abruptly changed in just that one corner, and the difference in the same colors where the change takes place, I tend to agree with Chuck and Steve (and Joe) now that it is not a repair.
