Question re ‘terminology’ in Uwe Jourdan’s Turkoman book

If one takes a look below next to where the red dots are in the attached, one will see a numerical figure (i.e, 1, 2, 3 or 4) after the knot type description.

For instance AS3 or Sy1, etc. I know what the letters mean / stand for, but what does the numeral stand for / mean in relation to the knot then? I cant find it described anywhere else in his book.

Hi Phil,

It is odd that he didn't spell it out clearly in his own explanation of abbreviations. I think we can be quite certain that he's referring to the number of strands of yarn in the knot, just as with his warp and weft descriptions.

Thanks Chuck! I actually posted a reply yesterday when I posted re the 'kochack' in other thread but seems it did not load. Anyway, re the numeral 1 (as in say AS1) meaning one strand. Would that one strand be made up of several threads plied together (to make that one strand) then?
