I recall seeing a Chuval on eBay last year listed with a buy it now for less than $100 USD. I thought at the time it was a recent piece and when I realized it was indeed a Salor Chuval, it had already been purchased.
I have since seen the same Chuval listed at Auction with an expectation of $30,000 - $50,000.
Although my buying days are over, financial gain was never a primary consideration. The best advice that I can give is buy what you really like at a price you can afford. Or, as better stated by one collector, "Buy what you would never want to sell." So, perhaps you did not really like the chuval that much in the first place? If that is the case, your decision not to buy it is justified.

I have never sold a single piece I have nor have I ever bought to sell later for profit. One day though, I do plan to thin the herd but the market has long since crashed for most items compared to 30+ years ago.
The piece in question was not an attractive piece. It looked too simple for me and not old at all. The simplicity of it fooled me. I was shocked to see it in an email notification for an upcoming auction.
