  • Question for the DIY repair people

I am looking to re-fringe a machine made runner by hand. The rug is sentimental as it was one of our first rugs we bought over 40 years ago in Turkey.
For those that have done a re-fringe, what material works best? I am looking to use 8/4 100% warp cotton in off white and I am open to using poly/cotton too. The issue I’m having is finding something that doesn’t fray. I have done repairs in the past, just not fringes. Any guidance would be appreciated.

So here is an update to my quiet thread. I ended up using 8/4 cotton warp. I have to say it was a challenge doing a machine made rug since the foundation is so solid and doesn’t allow the needle to pass as easy as a handmade rug.

Here are the before and after. The machine made “kilim” was removed before the fringes were added.
