  • New Book (NAZARLIK)

Saul Barodofsky and Michael Hladky have published a new book, "NAZARLIK". It's a wide ranging review of things that protect from the evil eye. It's available on Amazon - searching the site for the name of either author will bring it up.

    Hello Steve,
Thanks for the tip. I just checked and it's available on Amazon, I'll try to get it. It looks really interesting, and it's about a topic that fascinates me, talismans and amulets.
    Thanks!

      Hi Alex

It's remarkably wide ranging - that's both a compliment and a criticism. It's also quite inexpensive, especially in view of the many color illustrations.

I'm happy to have my copy.

      Steve

I must say there are very few resources on this subject. The author has a long and colorful past in this field and for those interested, just put his name into the archives or Google his name to find older presentations by him on this matter. Although the subject isn’t rugs, it translates over since many rugs from the Turkic regions have many motifs of protection and symbols to protect loved ones from evil. I am happy there is a book on the subject now.

          Hi

Based on the parallels between the pieces Saul shows in the book, and what we have on the walls and in the closet, I'd say our home is pretty well insulated from bad juju.

As Steve points out, it's a nicely produced book at a very modest price.

Ironically today I bought an Afghan Sharkh Khorjin in really nice condition. Tucked away in the bottom corner of one of the bags was a tag briefly describing the piece and on the back side was a stamp from the Sun Bow Trading Company. This company is/was owned by the author of the book, Saul Barodofsky.

Edit: 4 pieces total, 3 with tags from Sun Bow.
