Dear Steve et al -
Probably the best person to ask this question of would be Peter Andrews, who's just published the first two volumes of his great study "Nomad Tent Types in the Middle East." He says early on in the first volume that he has collected as much information on tent furnishing as he has on tents and that he plans eventually to write separately on them. These two volumes are expensive and very humbly covered and all the photos and drawings are in black and white. It also seems not to include a previously published map that is referred to importantly in the text. Nevertheless, it seems to me so far (I am only part way throught it) to be a very useful thing for tribal collectors to have. He treats not only some Turkoman tents but some varieties in Iran, e.g. the Shasevan, some in Turkey, some in Saudi Arabia and even some in northern Africa.
Sorry for this divergence but I have been looking for an opening to mention these two volumes.
