Dear Wendel and Pat,

I must have been very unclear in my original post, as I was speaking of the comparisons that had been made between the two yellow "S" borders on Steve's mafrash panels. The "S" border in his first example is a slit-tapestry form; the second "S" border has roots in weft-substitution/brocade structural designing. Thus one cannot be regarded as a degraded version of the other. Because they are different entities entirely, it is illogical to make assumptions regarding age based upon a comparison of them--from my perspective anyway.

The "H" border that you have been discussing--just above the one "S" border--is another matter entirely, and my remarks did not apply to that. I'm delighted that you found an example on my site, however!

Marla
