Inexplicable changes occur in rugs. You may recall that David Milberg wrote about (in ORR, I believe) his East Caucasian rug in which the the construction of the rug abruptly changed in the middle, although the design, I believe, remained the same. The wefting changed, the depression of the warps changed, the shape of the knots changed. Who knows why.
From a construction standpoint, David had two rugs in one and attribution was problematic.
