I wonder if there are any specific structural characteristics or weaving techniques that would facilitate a determination of provenance.

Always great to read new information. We all know about the 100th anniversary of the genocide, but most of us were not aware of this rug story sidelight. Thanks, Filiberto , for bringing it to our attention.

I'm pretty sure the late Harold Keshishian's book on his collection of inscribed Armenian rugs has one or two that had sewn on labels identifying them as having been made in orphanages.

Couldn’t find anything on the structure of these carpets.

Anyway, this is a Wikipedia photo of the rug that was given to President Calvin Coolidge.
